Sales of generic drugs move 13.6 billion reais

The market for generic medicines registered in 2013, 15.8% growth in volume of units sold compared to 2012. Were marketed 786.9 million units ahead of 679.6 million recorded in the previous year. According to Brazilian Association of generic drug Industries (PróGenéricos), the evolution was within the expected by the entity which foresaw annual growth between 15% and 20%. In values, segment sales reached R$13,6 billion last year, 22% higher than the r $ 11.1 billion measured in 2012. The value, audited by IMS Health, does not consider discounts of more than 50% offered by the retail industry and is based on records of prices made by the laboratories on Board of market regulation of Medicines (CMED). The generics segment grew above the total market of medicines that evolved 11.6% in the period, moving 2.8 billion units against 2.6 billion in 2012. In values, the evolution of generics also surpassed the result achieved by the whole industry. The total market presented growth of 16%, for sales that totaled R$57,6 billion compared to R$49,6 billion last year.
