In Brazil, smartphone sells more than common apparatus

Cell phone manufacturers have already put in the Brazilian market more smartphones than conventional appliances, the "feature phones". According to research firm IDC, the upset happened in the second quarter, when 8.3 million smartphones-or 54% of the total sales of 15 million cellphones-arrived at retail and to resellers. According to IDC, the mobile market as a whole presented a growth of 3% in comparison with the second quarter of 2012. Sales of smartphones more than doubled (110%). The "feature phones" fell 35%.
Leandro Munin, an analyst at IDC, said through a press release that the growth in sales of smartphones "is awesome". The analyst assigns the performance to several distinct and complementary movements, such as the expansion of the product mix in different price ranges by manufacturers, the rise of promotions and the way the devices are being exposed in both the operator and retail. The expert also highlighted the exemption of taxes for appliances manufactured in Brazil.
Between the second quarter of 2012 and the same period this year, the average price of smartphones fell 24%, according to IDC, for $ 240. "Lower-priced Smartphones are gaining traction in the market, but the key to the success of manufacturers is to keep this offer low-price in addition to a range of premium products and services too," said Munin.
Of smartphones sold in the second quarter, 90% had the operating system Google Android. The IDC data show increase in sales of smartphones that work with more than one chip carrier, the multi-SIM. This category has 40% market share to 15% a year ago.
