Metso closes € 800 million agreement with CMPC

Metso, one of the largest global suppliers of technology and services to the pulp and paper industry, has signed a contract of more than € 800 million with CMPC Riograndense Pulp, controlled by the CMPC, Chile to supply technology and equipment for the Guaíba Unit II line, in Rio Grande do Sul. The prediction is that the new line to come into operation in the second quarter of 2015.
As Metso, the total value of the contract is around € 800 million to € 900 million, of which about € 400 million for the company's own equipment and systems of Finnish origin. The deal will be launched in the second quarter backlog.
According to the President of Metso Paper to South America, Celso Mano, the signing of the contract with the company as a supplier consolidates the CMPC of pulp production lines. "We will not Only deliver the Woodyard, which will be provided by a local company," said the Executive to PRO, real-time service value.
The Guaíba II line will have a production capacity of 1.3 million tons per year of eucalyptus pulp and could reach 1.5 million tons with small additional contributions. The total investment of R $ 4.9 billion, already underway, will result in a factory nearly four times larger than the current one.
In the country, Metso had already signed a similar contract with Suzano Papel e Celulose, which is building a new eucalyptus fiber unit in the municipality of Imperatriz, Maranhão. Last year, the company completed another project, with the Eldorado Brazil pulp, which provided 40% of the Três Lagoas, Mato Grosso do Sul.
"With the contract of Suzano, which runs to the end of this year, the Brazilian was the main operation in terms of Metso's business in 2011," said Mano. "In 2013, the country must occupy a prominent position," he added.
One of the novelties of the CMPC, said Mano design, is the size of the evaporation plant, the largest in the world. In other numbers, Metso will supply 60 thousand cubic meters of concrete (or twice the volume used in Maracanã Stadium), 6 thousand tons of metal structures, 6 thousand tons of steel for construction and 30 thousand tons of equipment. At the peak, it is estimated that about 4 million people will be involved in the project.
