The data were released yesterday by the Brazilian Association of automobile importing companies (Abeiva). "The fall has been more intense than we might expect. However, we are confident that the volume should improve, especially in the second half of the year, when companies that confirmed production in Brazil will be able to enable the additional quota, "says Francis Padovan, President of Abeiva.
The associated sales to approximately 15% corresponded to Abeiva in accumulated from January to March 2013 (23,530), out of a total of 159,004 vehicles imported into Brazil. Local automakers accounted for about 85% within the imported.
The Padovan is in Chinese, Chery and JAC, companies that compete in the most representative segment of the Brazilian market, the cars. Chery will invest $ 400 million in the country, in a car assembly plant and an engine plant. They must import up to 25 thousand cars without the penalty of 30 percentage points in the tax on industrialized products (IPI).
In Jacareí (SP), Chery will produce two models. A subcompact and a family, consisting of a hacth and a sedan. This is already set, will be the Celer. "Our DNA is for small models and it should be here in Brazil as well. It is a trend of our urban vehicles market ", said the President of the subsidiary in Brazil, Luis Curi.
Chery factory comes into operation at the end of 2014, 2015 and the first car that will come out of the production lines will be the Celer.
The JAC, in turn, will invest $ 1 billion in Camaçari, Bahia. There the automaker will have the capacity to produce 100 thousand units per year and the model chosen, as well as the countrywoman, is a subcompact and a family.
"We're not going to import beyond our dimension. We sell over the next two years about 25 thousand cars. This will not force us to have a larger network. The 70 houses that today have throughout Brazil will give account of this volume, "said the President of the company in the country, Sergio Habib.
The new plan of dealers of JAC now stipulates that in 2014 the brand will have 80 stores, rising to 90 the following year and 120 resellers in 2016.
"Delay in two years our planning, that according to the new rules. In the middle of next year that we'll start to appoint the new groups. Let's grow slowly, "said the Executive.
JAC factory in Camaçari, should come into operation on 1 October 2014. It is expected that in the first year of operation the plant produces between 20 thousand to 30 thousand units. According to the Director of the JAC, Tarcísio Telles, in four years the company manages to achieve the production capacity. In Camaçari, the automaker will also produce a semi-light truck.
