Orange producer wants Government support for current season

Orange growers representatives meet tomorrow with technicians of the Secretariat of the Ministry of agriculture agricultural policy to discuss the measures of support to the sector in 2013/2014, which is in the early stage of harvest of early varieties.
The citrus are concerned because, despite the expected fall in Orange production, the prospects remain poor because of high inventories.
The Mayor citrus sector, linked to the Ministry of agriculture, and the rural Union of Taquaritinga (SP), Marco Antonio dos Santos, said that the sector will submit to the Government proposals to support the Orange prices support to be included in the harvest that will be announced in June. On Wednesday, the audience also participates in the Federal Senate to propose the inclusion of Orange food distribution programs in the federal Government.
Government has supported
The federal Government gave strong support to the citrus fruit sector over the past two years. To alleviate the pressure of supply in 2011/2012, the industries took $ 245 million of federal resources for storage of 311 thousand tons of orange juice from the raw material purchased by a reference price set by the Government. In 2012/13, as stocks continued high pass, the Government extended the payment of loans to industries retain juice and launched auctions of awards to consider prices.
Last year was spent R $ 117 million to subsidize the sale of 26 million boxes and, in 2013, plus $ 18 million to 4 million boxes. The support allowed the producers who had access to the awards receive R $ 10.10 by 40.8 kg box of Orange. The Government subsidized, on average, $ 4.50 per box.
Global stocks of Brazilian industries orange juice at the end of 2012 were 1.144 million tons, according to estimation of the National Association of exporters of Citrus juices (CitrusBR), drawn up from a survey made by audits in companies and then consolidated by independent external audit.
The stock includes the 311 thousand tons of juice that were given as collateral in loans taken in the 2010/11 crop. The total volume overcomes the 662 thousand tonnes of existing juice at the end of 2011.
The preliminary estimate of CitrusBr for the 2013/14 season is producing of 281 million boxes of citrus belt Orange covering Sao Paulo, Triângulo Mineiro. The volume is 22.8% (83 million boxes) below of 364 million nine-liter cases estimated for 2012/2013.
