GM sells 2.36 million vehicles in the first quarter

DETROIT-General Motors sold 2.36 million vehicles in the first quarter, an increase of 3.6% over the same period last year. The Chevrolet brand vehicles sold totaled 1.182 million, almost 1% more than the 1.181 million sold in the same period of 2012. The small gain was achieved amid the weakness of the European market. In Western Europe and in the central region of the continent, sales fell to 36,311 55,104, compared with vehicles a year earlier.

The results highlight the difficulty of GM to transform Chevrolet in a truly global brand. In addition to the weakness in Europe, the brand has suffered setbacks in Argentina, where sales dropped 11%. In China, they have risen about 2.5%.
The manufacturer wants Chevrolet to connect with more consumers around the world to try to leverage its recipe and overlap to competition, while fighting the fall of its participation in the North American market. In the u.s., Chevrolet's sales totaled more than 469 thousand in the first quarter, an increase of about 5%. The information is from Dow Jones.
