Ukraine decides to suspend pork from Brazil

The Ukraine has suspended the import of pork from refrigerators Brazilians claiming to have found listeria bacteria in a shipment of national product. National private companies already warned the Ministry of agriculture that the Ukrainian Government is not authorizing import licences due to the problem.
The Embassy of Brazil in Ukraine has already sent a letter to the Ukrainian Government asking for more details, according to the Ministry of agriculture. It is not known what the company responsible for the load.
Animal defence sources say that the embargo of Ukraine would be a result of pressure from Russia. According to the sources, after the beginning of the Russian embargo on national pork, Brazilian sales to the Ukraine have grown significantly. So the Russians were pressing to make the entry of Brazilian meat into their territory via Ukraine.
In the first two months of this year, Brazilian exports to Ukraine grew by 18% as compared to the same range of 2012, to 15,395 tons, according to the Associação Brasileira da Indústria producer and exporter of pork (Abipecs). Total exports of pork in the country in the quarter soared 6.52 percent on the same comparison, to 80,897 tons.
