SALES of PCS in BRAZIL DROPPED 2% in 2012

While forecasts for sales of smartphones and tablets in Brazil are of growth estimates for the PCs are negative. A survey published yesterday by the consultancy IDG points that were marketed in 2012 in Brazil 15.5 million computers, 2% lower than the amount of 2011. For this year, the projected drop is even greater: of 7.2%.
This is the first time, according to the consultancy, the number of PCs sold in the country registers fall in a stable economy. Until then, the market had only seen in 2009, around the time of world crisis, when sales fell 3% in comparison with 2008.
Now, Brazil returned to the fourth position in the world ranking of the PC market, behind United States, China and Japan. In 2011, Brazil had overcome the Japanese. The loss of the third place was for about 200 thousand units sold.
Among the reasons that contributed to the fall is the result of bad fourth quarter, a period in which emerged from store shelves a volume 8% less than the accrued to the immediately preceding quarter. The surprise is that the last four months of the year show, generally, growth in this industry.
Another reason for the retreat of PCs-category in which they are; laptops, netbooks, desktops and ultra-books-is the growing adoption of equipment complying with part of the functions of computers and are cheaper, such as smartphones and tablets. This year, the IDC bet there are 5.8 million sale of 28.8 million tablets, and smartphones.
One of the most frequent complaints of PC manufacturers in recent years have been lower profit margin obtained by the sale of such equipment. Especially in 2012, with competition more fierce, companies were forced to lower their prices, according to Camila Salazar, market analyst of IDC. It is on account of this movement in the market that emerged tended to lead the business in addition to the production of computers. "We are realizing that companies are investing in new technologies, such as smartphone, tablet, smart TV and also services," says Camila.
Dell, for example, has appeared increasingly as a provider of it services. The company sells computers and tablets at the same time that invests in cloud computing and storage. Makes up to TL consulting role as Positive, the market leader in PCs of Brazil eight years ago, opted for the production of tablets and five cell phone models (three are smartphones).
Despite the slump in the computer market, IDC predicts a more savory priced 2013 for the consumer. Is that the PCs should have innovative features such as a touchscreen.
