Production of trucks grows 206% in January, says IBGE

The production of trucks grew 206.4% in January compared with the same month last year and boosted the manufacturing of capital goods, said on Thursday the Brazilian Institute of geography and statistics (IBGE).
It is the biggest high, in this type of comparison, since December 1999, when the high was 244.4%.
In the evaluation of the Manager of the IBGE's industry Coordinator, André Luiz Macedo, the growth of this segment is due to an increase in the pace of production, but also a very low basis of comparison.
"In January 2012, the truck manufacturing was practically stopped, because of the change [mandatory] on motor vehicles, the Euro 3 for Euro 5. With this, in January 2012, the production of these vehicles fell 65.5% compared to the same month of the previous year, "said the expert of IBGE.
Macedo added that the sector has also been benefited from the reduction in the tax on industrialized products (IPI) and the fall in the interest of the funding of the National Bank of economic and Social development for the purchase of capital goods.
The IBGE's expert also said that the increase in truck production helped the performance of capital goods, which rose 17.3 percent in January compared with the same month of 2012. The trucking industry has weight of 50% in the production of capital goods, which, in January, had his best finish since February 2011, when the high was of 19.4%.
The low comparison base and the IPI also helped reduced the production of cars, which grew 25.3 percent in January compared with the same month of 2013, the biggest year-to-year result since January 2010, the month in which the sector advanced 30.6%.
In January 2012 front equal month of 2011, the production of cars fell 19.1%. "It was a result that boosted the production of durable goods," said Macedo. The car manufacturers account for about 50% of the durable goods industry.
