Production of motorcycles goes back 3% in February compared with January

SAO PAULO-Brazilian motorcycle production fell 3 percent in January to February passage, according to balance sheet released today by Abraciclo, the entity that represents the manufacturers of two-wheel sector.
In comparison with the same month last year, the manufacture of motorcycles in the country shrank 19.4%, totaling 123.3 million units in February. The result led to the production of motorcycles in the first quarter to 250.5 thousand units, which means a fall of 24.1% compared to the volume of a year earlier.
In a statement, the President of Abraciclo, Marcos Fermanian said that the sector still need to incentives, as new lines of financing, to start a recovery.
In February, wholesale motorcycle sales-automakers for resale – fell 18.6% as compared to the same month last year to 121.2 thousand units. Compared with January, however, there was a growth of 8% in the sector. With this, sales closed the first quarter marking fall of 23.2%, for a total of 233.3 thousand units.
Automakers also show decline in foreign trade, with indentation of 2.5% in exports in February, compared to the same period in 2012. In total, the industry embarked overseas 8.5 thousand motorbikes last month.
In the quarter, the contraction in exports was 8.3% to 14.2 million units.
