Tim invests R $ 700 mi fiber optic emredes

The mobile operator Tim will invest about $ 700 million in fiber-optic infrastructure this year, to expand the capacity of your network and connect to it the mobile antennas in the Rio Sao Paulo, said a company executive. The investment in fibre is part of the company's plan to invest $ 3 billion per year in the 2012-2014 term.
"Inside the backbone area optical, IP, etc. we are investing around $ 700 million this year," said Reuters Chief fixed-mobile transmission network operator, Cicero Olivieri.
"These $ 700 million to improve and expand the transport infrastructure (capacity) of TIM," he added.
The company has as one of its main projects connect 90% of mobile data transmission antennas in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo to the fiber optic network — 50 percent — to current front, according to the Executive. This will be a "differential" to Tim on competition in the region, said Olivieri.
Brazilian mobile operators have suffered strong pressure from the Government to improve the quality of services in the middle of last year, when the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) suspended for 11 days the sale of lines by Tim, Claro and Oi in several States.
From this, the companies pledged to improve networks and increase the quality of services, while maintaining the volume of investments planned for this year.
Tim also launched a portal to site users about the evolution of your network, in accordance with the action plan presented to Anatel.
In addition to the Rio-São Paulo, Tim also will focus on expansion of fiber network in the North and Northeast, two of the areas most affected by the ban imposed by the FCC to the carrier to sell new lines in 18 States and the Federal District. "With respect to other cities, the rest of the money (700 million dollars) is scattered, but very concentrated in the Northeast and northern Brazil," said Olivieri.
The Executive pointed out that the fiber network linking Bethlehem to Manaus is expected to be activated in July. This network is part of an agreement with the State-owned Telebras to network share. TIM will give more than two thousand kilometers of optical fibers in the North to Telebras, in excerpts of Tucuruí (PA) – Macapá-Manaus.
The State-owned Government reactivated to operate the national broadband Plan (PNBL), will yield the same mileage piecewise network inside the North and Northeast, as Tucuruí-Bethlehem. TIM closed 2012 with almost 40 thousand kilometers of optical fiber, while investments in projects in this segment last year totaled r $ 500 million, according to operator.
