Sales of cans had significant advance in 2012

The year 2012 has been very positive for the national industry of aluminum beverage cans. According to the balance sheet released by the Brazilian Association of Manufacturers of cans of highly recyclable cans (Abralatas), packing sales grew 9.3% last year. "They have sold more than 20 billion cans of various sizes, which means that, on average, each Canadian consumed approximately 103 cans in 2012", details the entity, in a statement distributed to the press.
The industry's sales almost doubled in the past six years. "Tin fell in the taste of Brazil", says Chan, Executive Director of Renault Abralatas. "With the increase of income, the consumer started to seek more sophisticated products and practical."
In addition to the greater purchasing power of the population, climatic factors have contributed to the good performance, according to Abralatas. The World Meteorological Organization points out that 2012 was a particularly hot. Rio de Janeiro, for example, had recorded the highest temperature since 1915, with wind chill reaching 47 degrees. The large amount of long holidays last year, according to Abralatas, also contributed to the advance sales of canned beverages.
President of Abralatas, Rinaldo Lopes provides a new favourable year for the sector. "The expectation is that sales will grow between 8% and 9% in 2013," said the Executive.
