Falling prices and sales of Blu-ray devices grow 57% in Brazil

The replacement of DVD players for blu-ray players intensified last year in Brazil, according to a survey conducted by GfK at the request of BRAZIL. Consulting points out that in 2012 the sales of Blu-ray players in the country grew by 57%, while prices fell 27%.
At Panasonic, for example, while early last year the cheapest brand model cost $ 499.00, today there are player available for 30.6% lower: R $ 349,00. In another manufacturer, Samsung, you can purchase a device today for an even smaller value: $ 299. "But even with the sales growth still can not make plans to take the DVD market," says Hirotaka Murakami President of Panasonic.
Murakami is right. According to GfK, in the Brazilian segment of video DVD Player devices still represent 87% of the market, leaving little more than 10% of space for Blu-ray, while in other countries the participation rate in the sales of that product reaches 76%, according to the consultancy.
But the scenario seems to be changing. Manufacturers have seen sales of DVD players fall 8% by 2012 compared to the previous year, after a high of 19% in 2011, which points to a trend of replacement technology.
Even representing a minor part of the total market, the Blu-ray has attracted consumers who opted for the DVDs because of features like sound and picture quality offered by this technology. In addition, the product is "piggybacking" on sales growth of high-definition TVs in the country, which are increasingly popular among Brazilians. Other features, like Smart TV features, also boosts sales in the category.
New features
One of the trends among manufacturers of Blu-ray players availability of video-on-demand services Netflix through the player is one of LG's bets, which States that has worked to expand its partnerships with content providers so that your users have access to movies and other videos with or without Blu-ray discs.
The manufacturer released earlier this year, a model that besides te content services is also compatible with NFC technology (Near Field Communication), which allows playback of content from smartphones and other external devices via wireless technology.
3D technology and the fall in the price of the discs of this type also drive the adoption of Blu-ray. In 2010, Universal Pictures released the first title in three dimensions manufactured in the country, the animation "My Favorite Evil". At the time, the value of the title in this format was r $ 130, and today it is possible to find the same movie for about $ 80.
