Vehicles lead retail sales in October, says IBGE

RIVER-in the month of October, seven of the ten activities that integrate the enlarged retail-which includes the activities of construction materials and vehicles-in monthly survey of Trade by the Brazilian Institute of geography and statistics (IBGE) grew in volume of sales compared to September, according to the IBGE. Vehicle sales boosted the overall result of the expanded concept, while the losses of the supermarkets were deepest in retail limited.
In October, there was an increase on September in the volume sold in the activities of vehicles and motorcycles, parts and pieces (6.2%); Equipment and stationery, computers and communications (3.0%); Books, newspapers, magazines and stationery (1.5%); Other articles of personal use and household (1.2%); Building Material (0.9%); Fuels and lubricants (0.6%); and pharmaceutical, medical, orthopaedic Articles, perfumery and cosmetics (0.1%).
In the opposite direction, contributed negatively to the retail results in October the segments of furniture and appliances ( -0.2%); Hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products, beverages and tobacco ( -0.4%); and textiles, clothing and footwear ( -0.4%).
