Supermarkets grow 2.92% in performance in 2013

The Actual Billing of supermarkets in the State of São Paulo (deflated by IPS-supermarket price index), the concept of "same stores" (inserted at the base of comparison in the minimum period of 12 months), presented high of 4.79 percent in October compared to September. Compared to the previous year, October presented a 9.09% growth in sales compared to the same month of 2012.
As regards the year-to-date (January to October sales), the growth was 2.92%-compared to 5.89% recorded in the same basis of comparison of 2012, which exemplifies a sales slowdown. However, just as happened in the last 5 years, the sector will register an increase in sales in 2013, whose expectation of growth is 4.5% higher than the registered in 2012. On the concept "all shops", the month of October showed a high of 4.89% in comparison with the previous month and 10.90% compared to October 2012. Year to date (January to October), the increase registered is 4.54% compared with the same period last year.
In relation to the Nominal Revenue of supermarkets in the State of São Paulo in Brazil, taking into consideration the concept of "same stores" (inserted into the basis for comparison of 12 months), October recorded high of 5.81 percent in sales for the previous month and 13.41% compared to October 2012. From January to October, has registered an increase of 12.62% if compared to the same period of the previous year. Over 2013, rising prices hurt sales, as it reduced the purchasing power of the population and, consequently, contributed to the decline in the pace of sales, leaving them lower than expected for 2013. Anyway, the expectation of growth for this year is 4.5%.
