Vehicle sales retreat in October

Survey released on Friday by Fenabrave, the entity that houses the car dealerships, shows that industry sales fell 3.4 percent last month, compared to the same period in 2012. In total, the plates issued to passenger cars, light utility vehicles, trucks and buses totaled 330.2 million units in October. The volume exceeded the September result in 6.6%, but this growth is due to the commercially more favourable calendar, with two working days more than sale last month. Year to date, the market now shows fall of 0.7%, totaling 3.1 million vehicles got their plates until October.
When you look at only the segment of automobiles and light-utilities benefited from discounts at IPI-, sales in October fell 4.1% compared to the previous year, but rose by 6.7% compared to the immediately preceding month. A total of 313.5 million cars were sold in October, number influenced by an atypical movement over the last two days of the month, when there was a fire in volumes to compensate for the lack of plates issued on Monday, day of holiday for civil servants. Even so, the average of licensing in October-13.6 thousand cars per working day-was the lowest in seven months. The fall in consumption of light vehicles in the year, which was at 1% until September, rose to 1.4%.
In the dispute between the brands most sold in the Brazilian market, the fourth largest in the world, General Motors (GM) approached the Fiat, but the Italian automaker secured the leadership last month, with participation of 19.6%. As a result, GM (19.4%), Volkswagen (18%) and Ford (9.4%).
