Thyssen plans to invest $ 100 million in MG

ThyssenKrupp plans to invest $ 100 million in building a factory engine components in Poços de Caldas, in the South of Minas Gerais. On site, the company will have an unprecedented process of production in the country, which integrates in a single subset camshafts shafts to the cylinder head cover.
In total, the Thyssen will have the ability to fabricate parts for more than 1 million engines a year of various types of vehicles, from passenger cars to heavy trucks. All this initial capacity has already been hired by a client. The company, however, does not reveal who is behind the first contract.
Paulo Alvarenga, Vice President of business development for Thyssen, says the new mining factory was designed to receive two more phases of expansion in the future. "To depend on new contracts, the factory can be expanded. There is space for the construction of new warehouses on the ground ", said the Executive. The first line will occupy only 6% of an area of 200 thousand square meters.
The launching ceremony of cornerstone, which marks the beginning of the works, is scheduled for next Thursday. If everything goes on schedule, the production will begin in the first half of 2015.
Thyssen reports that, while riding the axes of command directly on top of nozzle, subsets will be up to 30% lighter than conventional parts, which can contribute to the goals of energy efficiency assumed by automakers in the new automotive system. As a counterpart to the fiscal incentives granted by automotive-edited policy in October last year, manufacturers commit to make the cars, at least 12% more efficient until 2017.
The plant in Poços de Caldas, which will generate from 170 to 200 direct jobs, will be the first in Brazil operated by Valvetrain is Thyssen's arm in the area of production of valve spindles. According to the company, the choice of the site was based on the logistic access and availability of skilled labor in the region. However, you will need to develop some suppliers, says Alvarenga.
Known for business in the steel industry, where is partner at Valley at CSA-put up for sale by the German group since May last year, Thyssen is also one of the largest auto parts manufacturers in the world. In Brazil, where it produces components for engine, transmission and suspension, the Poços de Caldas will be the seventh of automotive components and the third in the State of Minas Gerais, in addition to the units of Ibirité and Santa Luzia, both cities in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte.
That presence, however, was higher in the recent past. In December 2011, Thyssen sold to Canadian Magna four factories producing components and chassis structures located in São Bernardo do Campo (SP), Ibirité, Camaçari (BA) and São José dos Pinhais (PR).
Second Alvarenga, the new investment is part of the Group's strategy of investing in growth markets and high return for investments, as is the case of Brazil.
