Fenabrave: vehicle sales retreated 3.4 percent in October, down from 2012

SÃO PAULO-survey released today by Fenabrave, the entity that houses the car dealerships, shows that industry sales fell 3.4 percent last month, compared to the same period in 2012.
In total, the plates issued to passenger cars, light utility vehicles, trucks and buses totaled 330.2 million units in October. The volume exceeded the September result in 6.6%, but this growth is due to the commercially more favourable calendar, with two working days more than sale last month.
Year to date, the market now shows fall of 0.7%, totaling 3.1 million vehicles got their plates.
When looking only to the segment of automobiles and light-utilities benefited from discounts at IPI-, sales in October fell 4.1% compared to the previous year, but rose by 6.7% compared to the immediately preceding month.
A total of 313.5 million cars were sold in October, number influenced by an atypical movement over the last two days of the month, when there was a fire in volumes to compensate for the lack of plates issued on Monday, day of holiday for civil servants. Even so, the average of licensing in October-13.6 thousand cars per working day-was the lowest in seven months. The fall in consumption of light vehicles in the year, which was at 1% until September, climbed 1.4 percent now.
In the dispute between the brands, General Motors (GM) approached the Fiat, but the Italian automaker secured the leadership last month, with market share of 19.6%. As a result, GM (19.4%), Volkswagen (18%) and Ford (9.4%).
The balance of the Fenabrave shows that sales of trucks still follow in high, with growth of 7.9% compared with October 2012 and of 4.4% compared to September. In total, 13.5 thousand trucks were sold last month, bringing the year to date volume to 129.5 thousand units, a rise of 14.9 percent.
