Vehicle sales climb 7.6 percent in September, Fenabrave points

SÃO PAULO-figures released by Fenabrave, the entity representing the car dealerships, show that industry sales rose 7.6 percent last month, compared to the same period in 2012.

In comparison with August, however, was decrease of 5.9% in vehicle plates issued, totaling, in September, 309.9 thousand units, between cars, SUVs, light trucks and buses.
The difference of the results is due, among other factors, the calendar differences. While September this year had two more selling days compared with the same month of 2012, in comparison with August, there was one working day less.
Anyway, the result of September helped decrease to 0.3 percent drop in the year-to-date sales, which was at 1.2% at the end of August. In total, 2.78 million vehicles were got their plates in the nine first months of 2013.
Even keeping an average of daily plates issued similar to the two previous months – around 14 thousand units –, sales of passenger cars and light utility vehicles fell 6% in comparison with August, adding last month 294 thousand units. It was the worst result in six months.
The performance also bucked expectations more optimistic that the sector could mark the best September in history, surpassing the 296.7 thousand cars in the same month of 2009.
In comparison with September 2012, when the market felt the "hangover" after the milestone of over 405 thousand cars in August of that year, there was growth of 5.9% in volumes.
On dispute of the brands Fiat, with 21.5 percent of the market, remained in the lead last month and Volkswagen (19%) resumed placing second, ahead of General Motors (17.2%). Fourth placed, Ford accounted for 9.7% of sales.
The balance of the Fenabrave shows that 13 thousand trucks were sold in September, 53.1% more than in same period of 2012-a negative year for the heavy vehicle industry.
In comparison with August, was decrease of 3.1% in this segment. Already sales of buses – from 3 thousand units in September – were 45.6% above the volume of a year earlier and 5.1 percent below August.
