Tablets and smartphones grow in businesses, but use is basic

VALUE-the use of devices such as tablets, and smartphones in Brazil has grown within companies in Brazil. Today, almost a third of companies (28%) have professionals who use these appliances in their daily activities. But two characteristics draw attention, according to research released today by research firm IDC.
The first is in relation to the profile of use of equipment in the workplace. According to IDC, most people use only basic functions such as e-mail and internet access. More complex programs such as business management and systems of customers and finance still have little widespread use.
According to IDC, in only one out of every ten (88%) companies that have between 10 and 250 employees use more advanced programs. In larger companies, the number rises to nearly three out of ten.
Another finding of the IDC is that fewer than two in ten tablets sold in Brazil are purchased by companies. This means that the devices that are being used to work in the country reach the companies at the hands of their employees. The tendency to use at work devices initially purchased for personal use has been consolidating in the market in recent years and is known as Consumerization, or Bring Your Own Device (BYOD).
For Bruno Freitas, an analyst at IDC, the apparent mismatch between the growth in mobility and the lack of more advanced systems, or structured programs to put the subject on a daily basis of business is related to the rapid growth in sales of smartphones and tablets in recent years and the difficulties of the departments of information technology (it) companies to follow this evolution. "There are domestic issues, policies that are difficult to work with such speed. You have her time, "said Freitas.
The analyst stressed, however, that the issue of mobility should not be ignored by companies. On the contrary, they should worry about creating rules for these devices to be used safely. "The technology vendors are developing their own products, or buying companies that have products that help in this process," he said.
The study was commissioned to the IDC by Intel and heard 288 business technology professionals of seven sectors of Brazil between August and September.
