Fibria discards pressure for new factory in MS

SAO PAULO-the President of Fibria, Marcelo Castelli, turned quiet as to the possibility of two start-ups building pulp mills in Mato Grosso do Sul State, which already hosts Fibria's own productive complexes and competitor Eldorado cellulose.
On Tuesday morning, 08, the Governor of Mato Grosso do Sul, André Puccinelli, revealed that a Brazilian company, in partnership with the Chinese will start next year the construction of the pulp mill in the State. In addition, Chile's Arauco has plans to build a pulp mill, but the project is jammed due to the opinion of the Attorney-General of the Union (AGU) which restricts the purchase of land by foreign companies.
According to Castelli, Mato Grosso do Sul has area available for new ventures. And possible new units should not disrupt the Fibria's expansion plans, since the company, according to the Executive, has "established a" area of influence in the State.
The municipality will receive the new factory cited by Puccinelli is Ribas de Rio Pardo, which lies closest to the capital Campo Grande. Fibria's factory, in turn, are in Três Lagoas, in the eastern region of the State, near the border with São Paulo.
