Supermarkets are confident to 2013, says industry association

In December last year, 36% of supermarket entrepreneurs were optimistic about the current economic environment and the future. The data, released on Thursday (10) is the monthly survey of Apas (São Paulo supermarket Association). Of the total respondents, 30% were pessimistic and 34 percent neutral.
The analysis of the current moment showed that the optimism indices reached 31.5%. As for the future, optimism is higher and represents the opinion of 40.1% of respondents.
The stability of high confidence is related to increased optimism regarding the current expectation of sales (72% of optimism). According to the Association, the supermarket sector confidence was influenced positively due to the year-end holidays and the consequent increase in consumption for the second consecutive month (November and December).
"The expectation is that the confidence levels remain high in 2013 due to the recovery of the Brazilian economy. With the growth of GDP, the highest rates of employment and incomes, two variables that directly influence the performance of the supermarket, "he says, in a statement, John Galassi, President of Apas.
