Motorcycle production has dropped 20.9 percent in 2012, according to Abraciclo

The Brazilian motorcycle industry finished the year 2012 with 20.9% drop in production, said the Brazilian Association of Manufacturers of motorcycles (Abraciclo), on Thursday (10). According to the entity, were 1,690,187 units in the year, lower number to 2,136,891 bikes manufactured in 2011. For the Association, the lack of credit to finance low-capacity bikes was the determining factor for the low.
However, the premium market of motorcycles over 500 engine capacities, increased 7.2% in production, rising from 41,034 motorcycles, in 2011, to 43,999 units, in 2012. In December, overall production was 66,226 motorcycles, against the 137,853 November units, corresponding to a reduction of 52%. In comparison with December of the previous year, with 101,767 units, downturn of 34.9%.
"The motorcycle segment went through a severe crisis in 2012. However, based on sales in the second half, which featured a daily average over 6,200 units, we expect a stable at the beginning of the year and a modest growth of 3.7% in the production, for 2013, reaching approximately 1,750,000. Wholesale sales should have an increase of 2.4%, getting around 1,665,000 units ", commented Mark Fermanian, President of Abraciclo, in statement issued by the entity.
