Sales fall 1.7% on Easter weekend in Brazil

Brazilian trade sales at Easter fell 1.7% this year, compared to the equivalent period last year. The data, consider the Serasa Experian week leading up to the commemorative date, corresponding this year to range from 10 to 16 April. In 2016, when the week fell between 21 and 27 March, the retraction was much bigger, of 9.6%, in comparison with a year before. According to the survey, in the city of São Paulo, sales in Easter week grew 2.6%.
In a statement, the Serasa Experian, economists note that the fact that the trade in the Country have introduced a minor fall in performance at Easter this year signals that there may be a retail sales recovery, returning to positive territory later in the semester. This resumption, according to Serasa, should be driven by the fall in inflation and interest rates.
