Consumers use less margarine and butter

The Brazilians last year reduced the consumption of margarines and butters. The consultancy Euromonitor International estimates that in 2015, the sales of margarine in the country had 2.1% drop in volume, reaching 38 1000 tons. In revenue, there was nominal growth of 4.8%, to $ 140.9 million. Butters, the drop in volume was of 0.6% to 77.7 1000 tons. In revenue, there was a nominal increase 6.4%, to $ 630.9 million.
According to data from Nielsen, the margarine segment presented fall of 0.6% in retail in 2015, after two years in advance of the order of 0.7% by volume sold. The BRF, owner of the brands of margarine Qualy, Claybon and Deline, reported that earned market during this period. In 2015, the gain was 2.8 percentage points to 58.1%, said Fabrício Amorim, executive marketing manager responsible for the Qualy brand.
Amorim estimates that the margarine segment will have stability in sales this year. And adds that consolidated brands tend to win market, since consumers are less willing to try new products in this time of crisis.
The reduction in the consumption of margarines and butters follows the fall in consumption of breads. The Brazilian Association of the Industry of bakery and Confectionery (Abip) reported that the flow of people in bakeries and confectioneries shrank 4.2% in 2015. Sales had 7.9% real fall.
