Vehicle manufacturers make up 9.5 percent of Brazilian imports until April

Companies in the automotive industry, including manufacturers of automobiles, trucks and agricultural and construction machinery, accounted for 9.5% of imports from Brazil from January to April this year, or $ 7.3 billion of the total $ 77.6 billion, according to further data trade balance disclosed on Friday, 24, by the Ministry of development, industry and foreign trade (MDIC).
The Ministry lists the forty most companies imported in the first quarter and that together accounted for 40.38% of purchases of the country abroad. Of these, seventeen are companies of the automotive sector, of which Volkswagen and Toyota are among the first five: they are in fourth and fifth place, respectively, ranking second only to Petrobras, Samsung and Embraer, in that order.
In the first four months of the year, Volkswagen of Brazil shelled out $ 791 million in purchases abroad, 9.36% increase as compared to the same period last year, while imports of Toyota jumped 44.72% on the same basis of comparison, for $ 768,7 million. Of the 17 companies in the automotive sector listed by the MINISTRY, seven had fall in imports, such as PSA Peugeot Citroën, which saw their purchases reduce 17.73% between January and April this year against the same months of 2012, to $ 301,9 million – the largest drop among the automakers. Among the automakers of heavy commercial vehicles and machines, the largest reduction was the Caterpillar of 19.74%, to $ 273.2 million.
The Cisa Trading importer appears in the seventh position of the ranking, a company whose billing half originates with the importation of vehicles for brands like General Motors and Toyota, among others, being GM his biggest client. The value of $ 676.2 million imported by the company in January-April was 35.34% drop compared with last year.
