GM will no longer disclose monthly vehicle sales data in the US, Brazil and China

DETROIT (Reuters)-General Motors said on Tuesday it will stop disclose monthly vehicle sales reports in the United States, China and Brazil, claiming that cutting 30 days does not reflect accurately the market and the company, and that instead , will issue quarterly reports.
The company will provide monthly data to the Federal Reserve, industry associations and Government agencies around the world, but this data will not be disclosed publicly.
Other major automakers indicated on Tuesday that will not immediately follow the GM and disclose the data on a quarterly basis.
"Right now, we're keeping our sales reports on a monthly basis," said the spokesman for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV.
Analysts and investors rely on data from monthly sales of u.s. vehicles to track the performance of individual automakers, and also use the data as a barometer of the health of the second largest car market in the world and a reliable indicator of consumer in the U.S. economy in General.
Jeff Schuster, Senior Executive of LMC Automotive, said GM's decision to disclose less sales reports "is not a big problem".
"As an industry, we can get used to the sounds and focus too much on the monthly ' noise '," said Schuster. "Maybe we should focus more on ' why '."
