Light bill will have red tariff flag in August, informs Aneel

The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) reported on Friday (28) that the August tariff flag will be red, which means an extra charge of R $4 every 100 kilowatt-hour consumed. In July the tariff flag in force was yellow with an extra charge of R $1.50 every 100 kWh. The system of tariff flags signals the cost of power generation. The goal is to inform consumers when this cost increases and allow them to reduce their use to avoid paying a more expensive light bill. According to Aneel, August is a typical month of drought and the forecast is rainfall below the historical average and tendency to reduce levels of the main reservoirs of hydroelectric dams. According to the agency, this scenario will require increased thermoelectric generation, which produces more expensive energy.
