Unilever solves the question of recycling black plastic bottles

Unilever has developed a new black pigment, considered more detectable so that its high density polyethylene (HDPE) bottles used for TRESemmé and Lynx (Ax) brands can be "seen" by recycling plant scanners and sorted to Recycling. This, according to Unilever, means that more than 2,500 tonnes of plastic bottles can now be separated and shipped for recycling each year only in the UK, which is equivalent to the weight of more than 1,200 family-sized cars. TRESemmé 's new detectable black vials are already starting to enter the stores and those of Lynx will do the same at the end of the year. Both brands will introduce at least 30% recycled plastic this year. Currently, standard black plastic bottles are not detected in recycling plants due to infrared light, which is absorbed by its black pigment of smoke, according to the company. Sebastian Munden, general manager of Unilever UK & Irland says: "Unilever has globally pledged that all our plastic packages are reusable, recyclable or compostable up to 2025. This innovation leads us towards our goal. We would like to thank our industry partners for working with us to make this possible. "
