Nestlé creates packaging Research Institute

Nestle recently announced the creation of the Nestle Institute of Packaging Sciences, dedicated to the discovery and development of functional packaging solutions, safe and environmentally friendly. This is a step towards achieving the company's commitment to make its 100% recyclable or reusable packaging until 2025. Mark Schneider, CEO of Nestlé, referred to on the website of the multinational that: "we want to be leaders in the development of sustainable packaging solutions for our food and drink. For this, we are improving our research capabilities to develop new materials and packaging solutions. With this, we hope to solve the growing problem of packaging waste. Our goal is to minimize our impact on the natural environment, while safely deliver healthier and tasty products to our consumers. " The Nestle Institute of packaging Science, which is part of Nestlé 's global research organization, will be located in Lausanne, Switzerland and will employ approximately of 50 people, including a State-of-the-art laboratory complex, in addition to facilities for rapid prototyping. In close collaboration with the global network of the company P&D, academic partners, suppliers and startups, the Institute will evaluate the safety and functionality of various packaging materials. The focus areas of research will include recyclable, biodegradable polymers or composites, functional role, as well as new packaging concepts and technologies to increase the recyclability of plastic packaging. The new solutions will be tested in several product categories, before being released in the global portfolio of Nestlé.
