Brazilian pulp production registers growth of 18.2% in August

Exports of raw material increased by 2,5% in the period, to 1,141,000 tonnes, while apparent consumption rose to 665,000 tonnes 59,1%, said the representative entity. Year to date through August, Brazil produced 14,030,000 tons of pulp, high 10,2% compared to the previous year, according to the survey. The international shipments grew 11,1% on the same basis, to 9,888,000 tons. Already 2,2% increased paper production in August to 926,000 tonnes, bringing the total produced in the first eight months of 2018 to 6,899,000 tons, 0,2% drop year by year. Domestic sales totaled 485,000 paper tons last month, topping at 2,1% the volume marketed in August 2017, while exports fell to 167,000 tonnes 3,5%. Between January and August were sold 3,580,000 tonnes of paper to the internal market, high of 1,4% on the same range of 2017. Shipments, however, fell 7,6% to the first eight months of last year, to 1,307,000 tons. In the case of wooden panels, domestic sales in August rose 13,6% year after year, and exports grew 11,2% in this comparison. Year to date, there were 4,8% domestic sales high and 3,7% on foreign shipments.
