Domestic sales of cement in Brazil fall 0.9% in August

SAO PAULO-the total sales of the cement industry of Brazil in August fell 0,9% against the same period last year, to 5,041,000 tons, showing a slowdown in the pace of decline, said the National Union of the cement industry (Snic) on Monday .
In comparison with July and considering the working days, sales in the sector were discharged from 0,1%, according to the data of the entity. In the accumulated from January to August, there was the fall of 8%, the accumulated 35.7 million tons, after accumulating 9,2% fall from January to July on the same comparison.
"Some measures to stimulate building taken by the federal Government in recent months, even though placed the cement sector in growth trajectory, at least come by reducing the size of the fall," said the President of the Snic, Paulo Camillo Penna, in a statement to the Press.
The apparent consumption of cement, which included domestic sales plus imports totaled 5 million tons in August, 1% drop over the same month of the previous year.
