Consumer Paulistano Is Less Confident

In June, the consumer confidence index (CCI) in the municipality of São Paulo presented fall of 3.3%, to move from 103.5 points in May to 100.1 points in June, the fourth consecutive monthly shrinkage. In comparison with the same period in 2016, there was growth of 2.1%. The data are part of the monthly survey by the Federation of trade in goods, services and tourism of the State of São Paulo (FecomercioSP). The index of Current economic conditions (ICEA) grew 6.6%, passing from 66.4 points in may for the present 70.8 points, the index of consumer expectations (IEC) component of the ICC, had 6.7% drop, from 128.2 to 119.6 points in June. In the annual comparison, the ICEA presented 35.2% high, and the IEC registered 7 percent drop.
Methodology
The data are collected from 2200 consumers in the city of São Paulo. The goal is to identify the sentiment of consumers taking into account their current economic conditions and their expectations about the future economic situation. The results are segmented by income level, gender, and age. The ICC ranges from zero (total pessimism) to 200 (total optimism).
