Polyethylene: New, Borealis and Total join forces in the U.S.

The specter of a global surplus of polyethylenes (PE) to be triggered from 2018 by new u.s. capabilities, has given the start in musical chairs around a rearrangement in petrochemicals. The search for armor and firepower to export makes up the background stretched to the announced joint venture of Nova Chemicals Corp., Borealis AG and Total Petrochemicals. The company will host two future endeavors of high boots in Texas: a cracker on the order of 1 million t/a ethene in Port Arthur and a plant of about 615,000 t/a of the polymer in Bayport, even where the Total puts a Ribbon in joint venture with an existing factory in the range of 500,000 t/a PE.
