Car rental agencies have made R$ 12.1 billion in 2016, down 25.3%

SAO PAULO-the car rental sector grossed R$ 12.1 billion in 2016, Figure 25.3% less than the R$ 16.2 billion in 2015, according to information published on Wednesday, 29, by the Brazilian Association of car rental companies (Abla).
The amount registered last year, 45% concern the outsourcing of fleet activities, 25% to leisure tourism, business tourism 17% and 13% to other services.
In all, the sector had 11,199 companies in 2016, being 8,559 rental without driver and other 2,640 with driver. In 2015, the Abla counted 7,455 shops, but, on occasion, the survey didn''t make the distinction between rental with and without driver.
The fleet already available in the sector fell 22.6% between the years, totaling 660,227 units in 2016. The vehicles represent nearly 75% of this amount-the 45% of the fleet are economic, the compacts account for 22.6% and the executives and luxury are 6.4% of the total. Already the commercial vehicles, such as pick-up trucks and vans, account for 19.6% of the fleet.
When separated by brand, Fiat/Chrysler appears at the top of the rental sector, with 24.23% of the fleet, followed by Volkswagen (19.23%), General Motors (15.03%), Renault (13.5%) and Ford (11.13%).
