Trade and services still crawling in the use of technologies for automation

São Paulo-While the industry already offers a good level of automation, especially in production, trade and services sectors are still crawling when it comes to technology investments. The area of relationship with the customer and the store are the most in need of tools that automate processes.
The conclusion is the "Brazilian Market automation Index" survey released yesterday and I measured the degree of automation of Brazilian companies in areas such as customer service, customer relationship management, logistics, systems, relationships with the employees, and in the shops and factories.
The survey, conducted by the Brazilian Association of automation (GS1 Brazil), shows that, among the three sectors, the automation is less present in the services and especially among small companies. "The industry began very early to invest in automation, with quality programs and stimulated by increased international competition. We had no similar movement in trade and much less in the service sector ", explains the Director of consumer of Totvs, Bruno Martinez Primati.
According to the study, the automation level of the Brazilian market as a whole is 0.22, on a scale that ranges from zero to 1 (the closer of the 1 the larger the degree of automation). For the research manager of GS1 Brazil, Marina Pereira, the number is positive, considering the dimensions of the country and the fact that the study take into account small and medium-sized companies. In the service sector index is of 0.15, 0.20 trade and industry of 0.26-considering only the factory automation, however, the indicator rises to 0.34, far superior to the value seen in stores (0.09).
"In trade and investment in Automation services is still small. Are sectors that are preparing for this, "says Marina. According to her, the two trade sectors is what should increase over the amount in automation in the coming years, mainly focused at the point of sale. The Director of the Company, Bruno Primati, explains that this will occur, in large part, by a Brazilian consumer's own stimulus, which increasingly retail demand a high level of automation within the point of sale.
Small and large
If the store the index of the GS1 Brazil still is extremely low in retail, in areas such as logistics and systems the situation is another. "Trade has a slightly higher level of automation in the supply chain. All part of backoffice is with a higher level ", summarizes Primati. The lifting of the GS1 Brazil shows that the level of automation in logistics of trade is 0.31 and 0.32 systems.
Another aspect highlighted in the study is the discrepancy between the investment of large and small companies in automation. While the index is of 0.34 in large, between small he drops to 0.21. Marina explains that this is because of two factors: right ignorance of smaller companies on the benefits and productivity gains to bet on solutions that automate the processes; and a smaller slope to inject capital. "The big ones have a higher level of automation because they have a greater predisposition to invest," he says.
Consumer
The survey measured Association still the degree of automation among Brazilian consumers, analyzing things like internet access, applications, and automation in electric appliances, in the car, home and personal items.
The conclusion is that the Brazilian has a high degree of automation in terms of internet access and applications, with indexes of 0.41 and 0.26 respectively; but very low when it comes to Automation in the home, car and personal items (called internet of things). In the three questions the level falls to 0.09, 0.03 and 0.04. "We're still taking his first steps on the internet of things in Brazil. As she is being disclosed, indexes tend to increase, "he says.
In relation to the level of automation by region, the study of GS1 Brazil shows that the South East has the highest percentage of 0.23, followed by the Northeast, with 0.22. The brazilian region that presents the worst degree of automation, according to the entity, is the South, with an index of 0.21. (see the chart).
