Eternit will use only synthetic fibers in the production of tiles by the end of 2018

The Eternit informs that decided to replace the use of chrysotile asbestos by synthetic fibres, in the production of cement tiles. The change will be completed by December 2018. "In line with your strategic planning, the company has already started your redirection product portfolio and business, toward a better matching the demands of the market and sustainable growth," he says.
In fact sent to the Brazilian Securities Commission (CVM), the company says there is a trend in the market, perceived in recent years, consumers no longer buy products containing asbestos, especially in construction. The shift in demand has led to Eternit to replace gradually the chrysotile asbestos for alternative raw materials, such as synthetic fiber.
"Eternit invested, in recent years, some R $25 million on adaptation of equipment and production process of their industrial units to replace the mineral fibre by polypropylene synthetic fiber. At the end of 2015, concluded the investment of approximately R $95 million in a new factory in Manaus for the production of polypropylene fiber, enough to supply all the production plants of the company and the third, "according to demand.
Currently, the factories located in the cities of Rio de Janeiro, Colombo (PR), Simões Filho (BA), Goiânia and Anápolis (Goiás), on average 60% polypropylene synthetic fiber and 40% mineral fiber of chrysotile asbestos in the manufacture of tiles. According to the company, by the end of 2018, the production process of tiles, use 100% polypropylene synthetic fiber.
The production of chrysotile asbestos fibers by Sama (mining company controlled by Eternit) will continue normally and is being gradually directed to the external market, serving customers in other countries where the product is allowed, such as Germany, United States and India among others.
