Chlorine production back up 0.5% from January to September and the soda falls 0.6%

A parade scheduled for maintenance technique of a chlorine and soda factories of the country negatively impacted the outcome of the sector in September, according to the Brazilian Association of the industry of chloro-alkali and derivatives (Abiclor). The data accumulated in the first nine months of the year show that the production of chlorine had negative variation of 0.5% compared to the previous year, to 878,600 tons, and that of caustic soda hit 963,900 tons in the period, retraction of 0.6%.
The capacity utilisation rate in the sector was 76.8%, 0.5% less than in the same period in 2016, having been affected by the shutdown, the Abiclor, in a statement, noting that, if it wasn't the stop technique to maintenance, the industry would have given continue your path to recovery.
"We hope that in the last quarter of the year, with plants operating normally, from presenting moderate growth sector, benefiting the slow resumption of economic activity," says the note the President of Abiclor, Alexandre de Castro.
Domestic sales of caustic soda retreated 1.2% between January and September compared with the same stage of 2016 and the total sales of chlorine had fell to 3.7%.
The chlorine and soda are widely used in industries of metallurgy and steel, pulp and paper, aluminum, textiles, soaps and detergents, food and beverages, water treatment, among others.
