BASF: net profit rises 50% in 3Q/17, to 1.336 billion euros

The German chemicals giant Basf recorded net profit of 1.336 billion euros ($ $1.570 billion) in the third quarter of 2017, as balance sheet presented this morning. The result represents a high of 50.45% compared to 888 million euros registered in the same period of the previous year. With that, the net profit per share stood at 1.45 euro ($ 1.70/share).
The total revenue registered growth of 9% in the third quarter, from 14.01 billion euros last year to 15.25 billion ($ $17.93 billion) in 2017. Already the profit before interest and taxes (Ebit) stood at 1.958 billion euros ($ $2.30 billion) in the period, with a high of 34% compared to the previous year.
The performance was sustained by the advancement in the sales volumes and prices of chemical, Basf, reported as a high sales of Chemetall, which produces chemicals for surface treatment of metals. On the other hand, all the business units suffered a negative foreign exchange impact, explained the company.
For closing of 2017, Basf revised projections on the global economic scenario, which can degrade greater protectionism and geopolitical conflict, and still sees "considerable risks arising from Exchange rate volatility and margin". About the company''s performance, "with the third quarter surpassing expectations", the prospect is of "considerable rise" in sales in 2017 on the previous year.
