Burger King will require animal welfare when buying eggs and pork until 2025

SAO PAULO-the restaurant chain Burger King announced that by 2025 it will only buy eggs and pork from farms that do not use cages (in the case of birds) or containment pens in maternity wards (in the case of pigs). The measure, taken by the network''s parent, the Restaurant Brands International (RBI), worth to Latin America. In Brazil, according to the company, until the end of 2016 there will be 480 outlets in operation. Earlier this year the measure had been taken to jail. "However, this is the first time that the Burger King casts a deadline for Latin America," said the company, in a statement. The RBI is being advised by the Humane Society International (HSI), which also works with other major companies in the food industry in this transition. The main objective of the measure, as the Deputy Director of the Department of Global production of HSI, Elissa Lane, is focusing on animal welfare. "We congratulate the RBI for working with us to improve the conditions of animals for food production," he said. As the RBI statement about the new policy, the company considers that "animal welfare must be applied in all aspects of production within the supply chain".
