Sales of the supermarket sector have high of 1.18% in first quarter

In the first quarter of this year, sales of the supermarket sector have accumulated high of 1.18%, in comparison with the same period last year, according to the National Sales Index Abras (Brazilian Association of Supermarkets). In real values, the demand grew 8.44 percent in March compared to February. Percentage is 4.16% higher than achieved in the same month of 2015.
According to the Economics and Research Department of the Association, the result of March reflected the seasonal factor related to Easter. This year sales concentrated in March, which helped in obtaining the positive result.
Still, for Fernando Yamada, President of the Open, the numbers are still shy, since watching fall of 0.36 percent accumulated in the first two months of the year, April brings the prospect of re-composition in comparison with the same month of 2015. "With this, we continue with the same perspective with which we started the year, 1.8% drop in sales in 2016," he explains.
Yamada highlights that the sector suffers from economic insecurity and political turbulence experienced. "To grow, we need to stabilize the political crises and plan the medium and long term, generating more jobs and income for the worker return to reactivate the consumption," he said.
