Orange juice consumption back up 8.7% in four weeks in the u.s.

Orange juice sales at large-scale retail of United States registered a new fall in the last period reviewed by the consultancy Nielsen. In the four weeks ended May 9 day, were sold 136.344 million litres, a 8.7% less volume than the same period last year. The data were released today by the Department of Citrus from Florida.
At the same time, the average price of drink to American consumers backed off only 1 cent on the dollar, after hitting the highest level in February, to $ 6.59 a gallon (3.8 liters).
Sales of the product have retreated because of the increased competitiveness of other drinks, they earn space because of the price and growing health concerns.
The Florida Department of Citrus said that the value of the orange juice has not retreated in the face of low consumption because production costs have grown with the increase of combat to greening, a disease that causes the premature fall of fruit, and reduces the productivity of orchards.
