1.9 trillion food packaging were shipped worldwide in 2014

The number of food packaging units sold globally increased 3%, reaching 1.9 trillion in 2014, according to data from Euromonitor International. The stand-up pouch, although not among the most used plastic packaging in the food industry, is the fastest-growing type, with forecast average annual growth of 6% for the period from 2014 to 2019. Among the postings in pouches in 2014 are cereals Kellog s, in France, ´ meals ready Heinz, in Germany, and the sweet corn of Green Giant, in the United Kingdom.
"The stand-up pouch is gaining strong presence, being used as a packaging solution that goes into the microwave for ready meals, like rice and pasta, but also as a shareable package of cookies, and how single-dose packaging in which the product is consumed in their own pouch, like ice cream, yogurt or baby food." says Rosemarie Downey, head of research on packing of Euromonitor.
China and India should contribute with 58% of all the growth of food packaging in 2015. The Asia Pacific region alone recorded a growth of 5% in 2014, representing 320 billion additional packaging.
"China and India are the indomitable powers on global food packaging industry," added Downey. "Levels of urbanization and income available, combined with a continuous change of habits in purchasing non-packaged for packaged, makes these countries are important for the development".
