Importing specialty beers grows 7% in 12 months

The market for specialty beers imported presented deceleration in the pace of growth this year, but still registers a high of 7% in the 12 months to August accumulated, Product Audit consulting lifting points, specialized in measuring data on high value-added products. The special beers segment accounted for 1% of the volume of beer sold in the country in 2014, according to data from Euromonitor International, with sales in the country close to 141 million liters. In the 12 months to August, participation has increased to 1.1%.
Carlos Rodrigo Abar, Director of Product Audit, said that between 2011 and 2014 this segment showed the strongest growth of 36% per annum. In 2015, however, growth is less, due to increase in basis for comparison and the economic downturn. "The importers have sought to negotiate lower prices with international suppliers, to try to keep the volume and sales prices," he said.
The survey also revealed a 5.6% increase in the number of imported labels, 978 brands available in the country this year. According to the consultancy, between 2010 and 2014 arrived in the country, and of those labels, 2,206 892 ceased to be imported (40% of the total). "The importers usually bring small volumes and different labels to be tested and the lines that have low demand are cast aside. But the trend is that churn will decrease, "said Abar.
The Executive also noted that the imported lines were the Belgian and American special beers, which almost doubled in volume of imports. In relation to types, the premium wheat based beers (weizenbier) and malted barley ("strong ale") are the fastest growing.
