Vehicle sales in August increased by 15% for GM (275,847 vehicles), 20% for Toyota (231,537) and 12% for Ford (213,078). The average of estimates from analysts consulted by Bloomberg pointed more modest numbers: GM with 11%, Toyota, 15%, and Ford, 10%.
The strategies of American automakers, such as GM, Ford and Chrysler, have included the closing of unneeded factories and development of better and more attractive vehicles, which led the prices paid for new models at high records. The industry is healthier today than six years ago, last time the sector has sold so many automobiles and utilities as last month.
"In 2007, we believed that the level of sales supported himself because the companies had many factories," says John Casesa, Managing Director of Guggenheim Partners. "Today, there is real demand for the product. Is fundamentally a different industry. "
Deliveries of Chrysler, controlled by Italian Fiat jumped 12%, close to the average estimate of 13 analysts ' ears by% Bloomberg. Nissan's sales rose 22 percent, beating expectations, which account for an increase of 17%.
Segment sales of automobiles and American utilities have grown, on average, 14% in August to 1.47 million units. The last time the industry sold both was in August 2007, according to figures from Autodata consulting.
Projections for the year indicate sales of 15.8 million vehicles, up from 14.5 million in 2012. But there are even more optimistic estimates, as disclosed by Chrysler in August, from 16.1 million units in 2013.
