Brazilian car has a relevant role in the global sales

Of the ten best-selling cars in Brazil, only one, the newly released Ford Fiesta, is produced and marketed in various regions of the world, which characterizes it as a global car. The rest are made only in the country and exported to Latin America, mainly to neighboring Argentina.
Yet that may be considered outdated in respect of vehicles available in most developed countries, Brazilian automobiles have important collaboration in global sales of automakers.
Uno and Palio are the most cars sold by Fiat in the world. In Brazil, occupying the second and third position in the ranking of sales. Following the global list of Fiat 500 models are, Punto and Panda.
The Volkswagen Gol, leader of the Brazilian market for 26 years, is in seventh place in the overall list of Volkswagen, which has ahead Golf, Passat, Jetta, Tiguan, Polo and Lavida.
Recently, to disclose the sales balance of the semester, General Motors reported that the Brazilian Chevrolet brand helped Onix to register record sales of 2.5 million vehicles worldwide.
The model, launched in October last year, tops the list of GM in Brazil and is the seventh in the ranking of the most sold locally. On the global list, which has the Cruze as a champion, the Onix appears in 13th place. Created a global platform, the hatch for now is only manufactured in Brazil.
New Fiesta. Already the Fiesta, unique among the ten most sold in Brazil that is similar to the version made in Germany, China, Thailand and Mexico, participates with 20% of worldwide sales of the model. The template is at the top of the list of Ford in Brazil and in second place in the world, behind only the Focus. The Brazilian Ford, however, sum sales of the new version, released in March, with the former.
"We still live the legacy of the past," Notes Richard Reimer, President of the society of automotive engineers (SAE Brazil). For him, the Brazil is advancing in using global platforms (the same basis in all markets), but will need at least another ten years to equate to developed countries.
He believes, however, that in five years there will be significant changes in Brazilian cars, with a larger migration to regional models for global. Will contribute to this development the new automakers that are settling in the country and that will begin operations with the production of global models.
In the evaluation of Reimer, as long as there is significant demand for a given model, the automaker more time it will take to replace it with another more modern. The price is another factor that can keep a car longer in line.
The goal of Volkswagen, for example, is the sales leader for more than two decades and, although it has gone through changes, lagged basis is made.
Market sources inform that the sixth generation of the Gol will use a global platform, whose advantage is cost reduction. Before that, the manufacturer launches in Brazil, next year the global compact up!, on sale in Europe and on local version has gone through some changes, such as the rear window narrower.
The same platform can generate models of different segments, such as compacts, sedans, SUVs and pickup trucks and the development is unique. The parent company or a subsidiary is chosen to develop the base, which is then used in different markets.
"Until 2015, all Ford cars in Brazil will be made on global platforms," says the Vice-Chairman of Ford, Rogelio Golfarb. In addition to the new Fiesta, the company produces in the country the EcoSport, whose platform was developed by engineers of Brazil and the USA. India, Thailand, China and Russia also produce the utility.
Lag. The partner of the consulting firm Roland Berger, Stephan Keese, agree that Brazil still has many models sold only regionally. Successful models out there often do not arrive to the country because of the price.
Reimer notes that, although using platforms obsolete, Brazilian models went through important transitions in the last two decades, especially with the introduction of new technologies for security and connectivity.
