Milk goes up 20% in the year and place of tomatoes as a villain of inflation

Foods such as beans and the tomatoes are no longer the villains of the official inflation, which slowed to 0.03% in July. Now, the new candidate for the post is long-life milk, sold in boxes.
The product was 1.04% more expensive in July and year to date, the high reaches 20%, according to IBGE (Brazilian Institute of geography and statistics).
The average price of long life milk in the State of São Paulo was $ 2.43 per liter in wholesale, and $ 2.77 in retail (for the final consumer), according to a survey from Scot consulting. In July last year, the liter of product was sold for $ 1.81 in wholesale, and $ 2.30 in retail. This represents a high of 34.25% wholesale, and 20.43% in retail.
The off-season of milk--when the herd production drops due to the low quality of the pastures--and the biggest competitions between the dairy for the raw materials caused prices to stay high, as the analyst Rafael Ribeiro.
Quantity of milk produced has fallen since September
The price paid to the producer also increased, due to lower product offering on the market. The producers received an average of $ 0.96 by liter of milk (for the production delivered in June). The value is 2.8% higher than paid the previous month, and 20% greater than in the same period last year.
According to Ribeiro, the capture of milk in the country fell from September 2012 to March this year. Last year, between September and November, production was 1.6% lower (7, 6 billion liters) in the same period in 2011. From January to March this year, the production (of 5.7 billion liters) had a fall of 1.4% compared to the same period in 2012.
High in the price of maize and bran, used in dairy herd ration, caused by drought last year, also helped to decrease milk production in the country, according to Ribeiro.
