Mercedes-Benz begins search for place to produce cars in Brazil

Mercedes-Benz began looking for a location for the Assembly line of cars that you want to install in Brazil.
São Paulo and Minas Gerais, where the carmaker already has truck factories, as well as Rio de Janeiro and Santa Catarina now are the States listed to receive the investment.
Officially, Mercedes confirms only the negotiations with Governments of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, but reports that several cities are being evaluated.
In recent days, representatives from the company were in the North of Santa Catarina to visit land in the region and talk to local authorities.
One of the options considered is to take the project to Joinville, taking advantage of the structure of suppliers, logistics and manpower that will appear in the region with the arrival of BMW competitor in nearby Araquari.
According to information from the Secretariat of communication from the city of Joinville, Mercedes executives vistoriaram areas of the region on holiday last Wednesday (1st) and, two weeks ago, the automaker's Institutional Affairs Manager, Sérgio Kacas, discussed the subject with the Mayor of the city, Udo Döhler. Port access is one of the attractions of the region, close to the port of Itajaí.
Mercedes still has the option to take advantage of industrial structures in the country, already the case of heavy vehicles factory in Juiz de Fora (MG), where the automaker produced the compact car class between 1999 and 2005, and São Bernardo do Campo.
However, Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of Daimler, parent company of Mercedes-Benz, already pointed out the sharing of a factory of Renault-Nissan--as part of an alliance between the groups--as the most viable alternative to resume production of cars from German brand in Brazil.
This puts the plant that Nissan is erecting in Resende, in the South of Rio de Janeiro, as an alternative to the project.
