Industrial natural gas consumption grows 5.7% in April

The industrial segment consumed on average 28.5 million cubic meters of energy
a day in April, the highest average recorded since November last year.
According to the statistical survey of the Brazilian Association of piped gas distribution companies (ABEGÁS), the consumption of natural gas in April grew 15.9% in comparison with the same month of the previous year. Across the country were consumed on average 68 million cubic meters per day.
With the lowest order of the thermal power plants to natural gas, the segment recorded in April the lowest volume of energy consumption since January this year: 26.5 million cubic meters per day.
The industrial segment showed growth of 5.7% compared to the previous month and 2.5% in comparison with April 2012, giving the industry's recovery shows. The residential and commercial segments recorded growth of 23.7% and 4.9%, respectively, compared to the previous month. Already the vehicle segment presented retraction of 1.1% over the same period.
The Southeast region concentrates the largest energy consumption with a daily average of 46.7 million cubic metres, followed by the Northeast with an average consumption of 10.6 million cubic meters per day, with an average consumption of 6 million cubic meters per day and the North and Center-West regions that consume 2.9 million m3/day and 1.7 million m³/day, respectively.
The natural gas reaches today more than 400 municipalities in the country and serves more than 2.2 million consumers.
