GE begins nationalizing new locomotive in MG

The prospect of new sections of railways in operation in Brazil and the concession of port terminals gives new momentum to the country's railway industry. The General Electric Transportation, that has a factory of locomotives in Contagem (MG), will start to produce a second model in Brazil.
The project was developed in conjunction with the Hail logistics, a subsidiary of Latin America logistics (ALL), which increased orders with the manufacturer on the basis of growth of the volume of container transport in the mesh used by ALL.
"The idea is to provide our customers with two models, one for broad gauge and narrow gauge. For the latter, we are seeking suppliers to boost the nationalization index of equipment and reach 60% over the next three years, "said the President of GE Transportation for Latin America, William Manson.
The Clamor to GE locomotives ordered six, and three of the model for broad gauge (AC44) and three others for narrow gauge (Dash 9). Of this total, four were purchase options. The first two were delivered in 2011.
"With the high demand for bulk transport, the company has exercised all the options," said Jose Luiz Demeterco, President of hail. The locomotives being delivered at the end of this year and the Dash 9 start with an index of nationalization of 40%, which would make it possible to enter a request for funding at BNDES.
"Other model we produce here already has 63% of national parts. We work with suppliers and we have invested $ 22 million. We have 50 component companies scattered across Brazil, "said Mello, from GE.
For the new model, the Executive pointed out that two American suppliers already studying come to Brazil in terms of market potential in the coming years.
"Are companies that manufacture electrical and mechanical components. With the advent of them here, we can increase our nationalization index in over 5%. In addition, we are working with companies that are our partners to speed up the process. We must have 60% of national components before three years ago, "said Mello.
